Authorities in Collier County are investigating a tragic double homicide that claimed the lives of two women in Immokalee on the morning of Friday, July 10. A suspect has been taken into custody, and the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence on North 9th Street at approximately 8:34 a.m. after receiving reports of a possible shooting. Upon arrival, deputies discovered two women, ages 25 and 29, suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released as authorities continue notifying their next of kin.
Investigators identified 25-year-old Lorenzo Coleman of Immokalee as the suspect. Officials said Coleman was acquainted with both victims and allegedly fled the scene in a white Dodge Challenger before deputies arrived. Crime scene investigators spent several hours processing evidence at the residence near Immokalee Drive, across from ITEC Community College.
The incident has deeply shaken the close-knit Immokalee community. Residents expressed sadness and disbelief, noting that such acts of violence are uncommon in the area. Many offered prayers and condolences to the families affected by the tragedy while hoping for healing during the difficult days ahead.
Law enforcement quickly launched a search for Coleman with assistance from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit. Approximately 90 minutes later, he was located in Lehigh Acres after Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance on Lone Star Lane. Witnesses reported that Coleman appeared distressed before being restrained by individuals at the scene until deputies arrived. He was taken into custody without incident.
Coleman is currently facing two counts of second-degree murder with a firearm, child abuse, and grand theft auto. Authorities stated that the child abuse charge stems from allegations that a child witnessed the incident. Officials have confirmed that the investigation remains active, and additional charges may be considered as detectives continue gathering evidence.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has extended its condolences to the victims’ families and continues to seek answers as the community mourns this heartbreaking loss.
