TACOMA, Wash. — An off-duty Tacoma police officer working security at a Walmart was fired upon while attempting to arrest a suspected shoplifter Tuesday night, according to the Tacoma Police Department.
Police said the officer was working security at the Walmart at 1965 S. Union Ave. when the incident happened around 8:15 p.m.
According to investigators, the off-duty officer was attempting to take a suspected shoplifter into custody in the Walmart parking lot when several people inside a black sedan fired multiple rounds toward the officer.

The vehicle fled the scene. Police said the only description available is that it was a black sedan.
Despite numerous shoppers being in the parking lot at the time of the shooting, no injuries were reported, according to police.
