J. Hunter Newton Obituary, Death – Louisville Police Officer Dies at 30, Jeffrey Hunter Newton, known as Hunter, of Louisville, passed away on August 3, 2026, at the age of 30. Born in Louisville in 1996, Hunter was remembered as a dedicated police officer, beloved son, brother and valued member of his community.

Hunter was born to Jeffrey and Jeri Newton and attended Trinity Catholic School. Following in his parents’ footsteps, he joined the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department, beginning a career devoted to protecting and serving others.

Throughout his career with the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department, Hunter approached every shift with integrity, compassion and a strong sense of purpose. He was known for his steady presence and willingness to step forward when others needed help, qualities that reflected his commitment to public service.

Whether responding to a crisis, mentoring younger officers or simply checking on a neighbor, Hunter carried himself with humility and determination. He was regarded as an important member of his squad and community, always willing to do what was necessary to protect those around him.

Hunter’s passing has left his family, fellow officers, friends and the wider Louisville community mourning the loss of a young man whose life was dedicated to serving others.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill Pezzarossi, Marcella Newton and Herbert Newton.

Hunter is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Jeri Newton, and his brother, Nick.

Service Arrangements

A private service for family will be held at 8:00 a.m. at Southeast Christian, followed by a Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) service at 9:00 a.m.

The family of Officer Newton has requested that anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory direct contributions to the Louisville Metro Police Foundation.

Hunter Newton will be remembered for his dedication to law enforcement, his willingness to serve others and the meaningful impact he made on his fellow officers and members of the Louisville community.

His life may have been far too short, but the legacy he leaves through his family, colleagues and community will continue to be remembered with respect and gratitude.
