The Uvalde, Texas, community is mourning the loss of a 25-year-old woman who died Saturday morning in a tragic two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 90 in Kinney County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:02 a.m. on U.S. 90, about 16 miles west of Brackettville.
Authorities said a gray Dodge pickup truck towing a helicopter was traveling westbound on the highway when the driver encountered a blue Chevrolet Equinox traveling the wrong direction along the westbound shoulder.
According to preliminary information, the driver of the Dodge pickup attempted to avoid a head-on collision by swerving. However, the Chevrolet Equinox struck the front-right quarter panel of the pickup, causing a crash involving the truck, the helicopter being towed, and the Chevrolet.
The 25-year-old Uvalde woman suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead. Her passing has left family, friends, and members of the community grieving the loss of a young life taken far too soon.
