The shooting happened at approximately 2:30 a.m. near Crestway Drive and Waterside Drive. Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find a gray vehicle with numerous bullet holes. Investigators determined that two of the four people inside had been struck.

Sheriff Javier Salazar said the male victim, who was seated in the rear passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was also shot and transported to Brooke Army Medical Center. She was reported to be in stable condition.

According to investigators, a white Volvo SUV pulled alongside the victims’ vehicle before someone opened fire. Approximately 10 rounds were fired into the car before the SUV left the area, reportedly traveling east toward the Kitty Hawk area.

Two other people were inside the vehicle at the time. A woman sitting in the back seat was not injured and remained at the scene to speak with investigators. The woman who was driving, however, left the area after the shooting. Authorities said she is not considered a suspect and are attempting to locate her to make sure she is safe and obtain additional information about what happened.

Investigators are treating the shooting as a potentially targeted attack and are working to determine what may have prompted it. Sheriff Salazar said authorities have obtained video and images of the suspect vehicle, which could help detectives identify those responsible.

Authorities are also asking residents and businesses in the surrounding area to check available security footage that could have captured the white SUV before or after the shooting.

No arrest or motive had been publicly announced in the latest reports. The investigation remains active as detectives work to reconstruct the events and identify the person responsible.
