The Gatineau community, academic world, and many friends are mourning the reported passing of Brendan Myers, a respected philosophy professor, author, storyteller, and cherished friend whose life was defined by generosity, intellectual curiosity, creativity, and a deep appreciation for meaningful human connection.
Those who knew Myers remembered him as gregarious, gentle, generous, earnest, and fiercely loyal. He was described as someone with an unmistakable enthusiasm for life, a warm personality, and a wonderfully unselfconscious laugh that reflected the joy he brought to those around him.
Brendan had a deep love for mythology, storytelling, music, conversation, and the simple moments shared with people he cared about. Friends and colleagues are remembering not only his intellectual gifts but also the kindness and authenticity that made him such a memorable presence in their lives.
His academic journey reflected a lifelong dedication to ethics and philosophy. Myers earned a PhD in the Philosophy of Ethics and became a respected educator, including through his work at CEGEP Heritage College, where he shared his knowledge, ideas, and passion for learning with students in thoughtful and creative ways.
Beyond the classroom, Brendan was also a prolific writer. He authored approximately 24 books across various genres, including works of fiction and philosophy. Through his writing, teaching, and conversations, he encouraged others to explore ideas, question the world around them, and find meaning in human experiences.
For his family, friends, students, and colleagues, Brendan’s passing represents the loss of a unique individual whose influence reached far beyond academic spaces. His curiosity, humor, generosity, and love for storytelling created lasting connections with many people.
