Fire Hamilton Today: East-End House Fire Causes Up to $1.5 Million Damage, One Woman Hospitalized
A major house fire broke out in east Hamilton early Friday morning, August 21, 2026, sending one person to hospital and causing an estimated $1 million to $1.5 million in damage.
Hamilton Fire Department crews were called to a home at 129 Rosslyn Avenue North, near Roxborough Avenue, at about 1:41 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the one-and-a-half-storey residence. The incident quickly escalated to a multiple-alarm response, bringing additional crews from across the city.
Firefighters launched an aggressive attack and search operation and were able to bring the blaze under control before it could cause significant damage to the neighbouring property at 131 Rosslyn Avenue North. All occupants of the affected home had escaped before crews arrived.
One person taken to hospital
One adult woman was assessed by paramedics after suffering minor smoke inhalation. She was taken to hospital as a precaution. No other injuries have been reported among residents or firefighters.
Fire officials believe the blaze may have started in the kitchen, although the investigation into the cause remains ongoing. Because of the significant financial loss, the Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.
Firefighters remained at the property to monitor the scene and make sure the fire did not reignite.
