The Incident
Connecticut State Police reported they responded around 4:00 a.m. to a “disturbance involving shots fired” at a home on South Road. Inside, they found a man in a second-story bedroom suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:20 a.m. Two children and the 911 caller were present during the incident but were not injured. The suspect, identified as Joshua Freitag, 33, of Somers, was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Victim and Suspect Profile
The victim has been identified as Mark Morgan. According to the arrest warrant, Freitag and Morgan had a long-standing animosity and had previously engaged in physical altercations. Reactions
During Freitag’s arraignment, Morgan’s mother emotionally confronted the suspect, exclaiming, “You killed my son,” as she left the courtroom in tears. Judge Alyce L. Alfano maintained Friday’s bond at $1.5 million. Freitag’s attorney argued the incident was personal and claimed Freitag poses no threat to the broader public.
