Marion County Shooting: Two Killed, Third Person Injured as Deputies Recover More Than 50 Shell Casings
MARION COUNTY, S.C. — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is continuing to investigate a deadly shooting that occurred shortly after midnight Saturday, leaving two people dead and a third person injured.
According to investigators, three people suffered gunshot wounds during the incident. Two victims later died from their injuries, while the third victim sustained injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.
More than 50 shell casings recovered
Investigators have recovered more than 50 shell casings from two separate areas as they work to determine exactly what happened.
The large amount of ballistic evidence indicates that a significant exchange of gunfire may have occurred, although investigators have not publicly disclosed how many firearms were involved or identified the person or people responsible.
Crime-scene investigators are continuing to document the locations where evidence was recovered and establish the sequence of events.
Investigators believe witnesses may have seen shooting
Authorities believe dozens of people may have witnessed the shooting.
Because of the number of potential witnesses, investigators are asking members of the community to come forward with any information they may have.
Officials are particularly interested in cellphone recordings, security-camera footage, vehicle-camera footage or other video captured before, during or immediately after the shooting.
Even footage that does not appear to show the shooting itself could potentially help detectives establish a timeline or identify vehicles and individuals connected to the incident.
Victims and circumstances
Authorities have not released additional identifying information about the two people who died or the surviving victim in the initial statement.
The circumstances that led to the gunfire also remain under investigation.
Detectives are working to determine what happened before the shooting, whether the victims were specifically targeted and whether anyone else was involved.
No conclusions about a motive or suspect should be drawn until investigators release additional verified information.
Sheriff’s Office asks community for help
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is emphasizing the importance of community cooperation as detectives continue the investigation.
Anyone who was in the area around the time of the shooting, heard gunfire, saw people or vehicles leaving the scene or captured relevant footage is encouraged to contact investigators.

Investigation remains active
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not announced an arrest or identified a suspect in the information provided.
Investigators are continuing to process the extensive evidence recovered from the two locations and interview potential witnesses.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging residents not to assume that someone else has already provided information. A single video, observation or piece of evidence could help detectives reconstruct the events.
Anyone with information, photographs, recordings or video related to the shooting is urged to contact Detective Eric Nobles at 843-616-0046 or Crime Stoppers of the Pee Dee at 1-888-CRIMESC.
This is a developing investigation. Additional details will be released when authorities are able to confirm more information.
