Five Killed After Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes Into Workers’ Van at Miami International Airport
A devastating accident at Miami International Airport has left five families mourning after an Amazon cargo plane crashed into a vehicle carrying aircraft-cleaning workers, killing five people.
The victims were identified as Rolando Aleman Leon, 55; Yoel Rodriguez Narajo, 53; Julio C. Pineda, 75; Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53; and J. Reyes Quevedo, 47. All five were inside a van belonging to Professional Ocean Service Corp. when the aircraft overran the runway Sunday.
The Boeing 767 was landing after a flight from Puerto Rico when it traveled beyond the end of the runway. The aircraft then struck the workers’ van before continuing through an airport fence and colliding with an SUV on a nearby city street.
The violent sequence of events has left the airport community and the families of the victims facing an enormous loss.
The five workers were part of the airport’s support workforce, carrying out duties associated with aircraft cleaning and airport operations before the crash abruptly ended their lives.
The circumstances surrounding why the aircraft overran the runway remain central to the investigation. Further details are expected as authorities work to determine exactly what led to the deadly accident.
