According to official investigation bulletins released by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, emergency dispatchers received reports of a two-vehicle crash at approximately 7:30 a.m. along US 13 in Sampson County. Highway Patrol Trooper W. A. Davis responded to the scene and established that Mr. Green was traveling eastbound in a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck when a westbound 2006 Dodge pickup truck, driven by 56-year-old Christopher S. Philyaw of Princeton, crossed the center line.
Investigators indicated that Mr. Green attempted evasive maneuvers, but the two vehicles collided head-on near the center of the roadway. First responders located Mr. Green unresponsive inside his vehicle and pronounced him deceased at the scene due to severe impact injuries.
