WICHITA, KANSAS — The Wichita community is mourning the passing of Curtis Cole, who died on February 1, 2026, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield at the age of 76.
A respected U.S. Army veteran, devoted family man, and longtime member of his community, Curtis was remembered for a life defined by service, faith, perseverance, and love for those around him.
Born on January 25, 1950, in Wichita, Curtis served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer. During his service, he experienced a serious accident that changed the course of his life and brought lasting health challenges. Despite those difficulties, he continued to move forward, earning an associate degree in heating and air conditioning and remaining active through his work, church, and community involvement.
Curtis was known for his many interests and passions. He enjoyed Elvis Presley, 1960s music, dancing, traditional hymns, automobiles, and sharing stories about Wichita’s Douglas Avenue. He was also involved in several organizations, including the Porsche Club, Walnut Valley Sailing Club, Chess Club, Boy Scouts, and 4-H Club.
His faith remained a central part of his life, especially through his longtime connection with Central Christian Church, where he participated in Bible studies and sang in the choir.
Family, friends, and community members remember Curtis as a man of strength, kindness, and dedication whose presence brought joy to many lives. His legacy of service and compassion will continue to be cherished by all who knew him.
