Brush Fire Near State Route 512 in Parkland Prompts Evacuations and Highway Closure
A fast-moving brush fire near State Route 512 in Parkland, Washington, prompted emergency evacuation orders Friday as firefighters worked to contain flames spreading through dry vegetation close to residential areas and a busy highway.
The fire broke out near State Route 512, close to the State Route 7 and Pacific Avenue area, and quickly became a concern for residents living nearby. Authorities issued urgent evacuation instructions for people in the affected area, warning residents not to wait before leaving if they were inside the evacuation zone.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and Central Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to the incident as the flames spread. Officials issued a Level 3 evacuation order, which means residents in the designated area were instructed to leave immediately because of the potential danger posed by the rapidly developing fire.
The evacuation area included homes around 108th Street South, 111th Street South and Sheridan Avenue South, according to reports. Residents were urged to follow instructions from emergency officials and move away from the fire zone.
The blaze also affected traffic along State Route 512. One lane of the highway was closed while emergency crews operated near the roadway. Drivers were advised to avoid the area where possible and expect delays as firefighters and other emergency personnel worked to bring the situation under control.
