The Wellston Fire Department and the surrounding community are mourning the reported loss of firefighter Joe Flake, who died after suffering a medical emergency while helping firefighters battle a large grass fire near Carney on Monday, September 7.
Flake was among the firefighters responding to the blaze when he suddenly experienced a medical episode. He was transported to Stillwater Medical Center in critical condition, where he later passed away.
