A shooting that injured a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officer has led investigators to uncover what authorities describe as a wide-ranging crime spree across Mecklenburg County and neighboring York County, resulting in nearly 200 criminal charges against two brothers.
CMPD announced Friday, September 11, 2026, that Dionte Antonio McCracking, 28, and Jatarius Damond McCracking, 27, are collectively facing 190 criminal charges following a major investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including local and federal partners.
According to police, the investigation began after a violent encounter involving an officer in west Charlotte during the early morning hours of September 9. The incident prompted authorities to begin examining additional crimes allegedly connected to the suspects.
