The Lake County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Lars Ewing, 49, a lifelong resident, devoted father of five, veteran, civil engineer, and respected public servant whose life was tragically cut short in a head-on collision on Highway 20 in Colusa County Friday morning.
According to reports, Lars was killed in a crash involving a semi-truck, leaving behind a grieving family, friends, and a community struggling to process the loss of a man who dedicated much of his life to serving others.
Lars’s life was defined by commitment, leadership, and a deep connection to the place he called home. Born and raised in Lakeport, California, he graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1995 before continuing his education at the United States Air Force Academy, where he earned a degree in civil engineering.
Following graduation, Lars proudly served as an Air Force civil engineering officer for five years, reaching the rank of captain. After his military service, he returned to Lake County, where he continued his mission of helping and strengthening the community he loved.
Throughout his career in public service, Lars held leadership roles including Public Services director and later helped guide the consolidated Public Works Department. His work reflected his dedication to improving infrastructure, supporting residents, and making a lasting difference in the community.
