The Petersburg community is mourning the tragic reported loss of Lance M. Dusseau, 47, following a motorcycle crash Sunday night on Ida West Road.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Lance was traveling westbound on Ida West Road on his motorcycle while his 19-year-old son, Clayton M. Dusseau, was riding nearby on a separate motorcycle.
Investigators said a loose dog entered the roadway and initially struck the side of Clayton’s motorcycle. The animal was then forced into Lance’s path, where his motorcycle struck the dog.
The collision caused Lance to lose control of his motorcycle. He subsequently left the roadway and crashed.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but Lance suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Clayton was not injured in the crash, according to the information provided.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events that led to the fatal crash.
