Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a Saturday morning crash on Interstate 26 that also left three others injured.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 12:20 a.m. near the 133-mile marker west of St. Matthews.
According to Lance Corporal Brittany Glover, a 2025 Honda CR-V carrying four occupants was traveling eastbound on I-26 when it ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a concrete barrier.
The front-seat passenger, identified by the Calhoun County Coroner’s Office as Benjamin Winston, 35, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the three other occupants of the vehicle were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Their conditions have not been released.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway, and the crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The collision caused a significant emergency response in the area as crews worked overnight to clear the scene and assist the injured.
Officials said further details will be released as the investigation continues.
