Richard DiMauro, a 79-year-old man from Oxford, Connecticut, lost his life following a serious head-on collision in Seymour on Friday night. The crash involved a 1930 Ford Model A and a Ford F-350 pickup truck.
The accident occurred around 8:55 p.m. near the intersection of Great Hill Road and Southwest Road in New Haven County. Police said both vehicles sustained heavy damage on impact.
Responding officers arrived to find the two vehicles blocking the roadway after a head-on collision. The scene was described as active and chaotic as emergency crews worked to secure the area and assist those involved.
DiMauro was identified as the driver of the Ford Model A. He was found unresponsive inside the vehicle when officers reached him.
Emergency responders immediately began lifesaving efforts at the scene before transporting him to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Despite medical intervention, DiMauro later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Ford F-350 pickup truck survived the collision and was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released the identity of the driver.
Investigators remained at the scene for several hours, documenting evidence and clearing debris from the roadway while managing partial traffic flow during the response.
Officials noted that the crash occurred along winding local roads connecting residential and rural areas of Seymour and nearby Oxford. The area is known for limited visibility at night in certain stretches.
At this stage, investigators have not determined the cause of the crash. They have not confirmed whether speed, impairment, distraction, weather conditions, or a medical issue played a role.
