A man accused in a Thursday afternoon shooting at a birthday gathering in Berkeley that left one person dead and three others injured now faces multiple felony charges, authorities said Friday.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged 25-year-old Devion Sneed with first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, stealing a firearm, and four counts of armed criminal action.
Investigators also identified the victim killed in the shooting as Lamonte Keys.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred around 5:20 p.m. on Thursday at Ramona-Mathison Lake Park, located near Interstate 70 and North Hanley Road, where a birthday celebration was taking place.
Preliminary findings suggest the incident stemmed from a family dispute involving children playing near the water. Officials said the disagreement escalated into an argument and physical confrontation before gunfire broke out.
Four people were struck during the shooting. Keys was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. Three women were also injured and transported to area hospitals for treatment of varying injuries. Authorities said all of the individuals involved are believed to have known one another.
Following the incident, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Sneed. Court records show he is being held on a $600,000 bond upon arrest.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including witness statements and evidence collected at the scene. Authorities have not released additional details regarding a possible motive beyond the initial dispute.
The St. Louis County Police Department and the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office say the investigation remains active, and additional updates may be released as the case moves forward through the court system.
