The Sherman and Tom Bean communities are mourning the tragic loss of Makynna Eden Tumlinson, an 18-year-old student whose life was cut short in a fatal traffic collision in Grayson County on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Highway Patrol Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash at approximately 3:44 p.m. on State Highway 11 near McGraw Lane. Preliminary findings indicate that a Chevrolet Cruze was traveling northbound when it collided with the rear of a 2007 International Truck that was also traveling northbound ahead of it.
Investigators reported that the Chevrolet failed to control its speed before striking the truck. Following the collision, both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane of the highway.
Makynna Tumlinson, the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze and a resident of Sherman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her sudden passing has left family members, friends, classmates, teachers, and community members heartbroken as they struggle to come to terms with the loss of a young life filled with promise and potential.
The driver of the International Truck, identified as Hector Ivan Mejia Garcia, 37, of Allen, Texas, was transported to a local medical facility with what authorities described as suspected minor injuries.
