Family members, friends, and residents of the Monticello community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jessica Ruby, whose life was tragically cut short at the age of 32 following a fatal shooting in Marion County.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Friday night to reports of a shooting along the Highway 35 Bypass near Jones Lake. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Ruby suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel rushed Ruby to a nearby hospital, where doctors and nurses made every effort to save her life. Despite those lifesaving measures, she later died from her injuries.
Authorities have since arrested and charged 89-year-old Raymond Johnson of Foxworth with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting after he turned himself in to law enforcement.
