Family members, friends, and the Piedmont community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Eva Lowe, 55, and Jasmine Spicer, 32, who died in a tragic head-on collision involving a commercial semi-truck early Monday morning on U.S. Highway 278.

According to the Piedmont Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. on June 29 in the 1700 block of U.S. Highway 278. Officers, along with personnel from the Piedmont Fire Department and Piedmont Rescue, responded to reports of a serious motor vehicle collision.

Preliminary findings indicate that a Nissan Rogue was traveling eastbound toward Piedmont when, for reasons that remain under investigation, it crossed the center line into the westbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming commercial semi-truck.

Emergency responders found both occupants of the SUV with fatal injuries. Eva Lowe and Jasmine Spicer, both residents of Piedmont, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not publicly identified the driver of the semi-truck or released information regarding that person’s condition. Investigators also have not determined what caused the Nissan Rogue to enter the opposing lane of traffic.

The Piedmont Police Department continues to investigate the fatal collision and is examining all possible contributing factors. Detectives are reviewing evidence from the crash scene as they work to determine the events leading up to the collision.

The deaths of Eva Lowe and Jasmine Spicer have left their families, friends, and neighbors grieving the loss of two lives taken far too soon. Loved ones remember them with affection and sorrow as the community comes together to offer prayers and support during this difficult time.
