Tyrique Gilliam Obituary, YORK COUNTY, VA — Tyrique Gilliam, a 27-year-old man, has died following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 in York County early Wednesday morning, according to the Virginia State Police. The crash also left a female passenger injured.
Authorities identified Gilliam as the driver involved in the fatal crash. He suffered serious injuries after the vehicle he was operating left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. Gilliam was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the collision.
According to investigators, Virginia State Police troopers responded at approximately 4:35 a.m. Wednesday to a reported crash near the 237-mile marker of Interstate 64 in York County.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling along I-64 when it veered off the right side of the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation. The vehicle then collided with a tree before overturning, causing significant damage.
A 20-year-old female passenger was also inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. She suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Officials have not released further details about her condition.
Emergency crews remained at the scene as investigators worked to document evidence and remove the damaged vehicle. The crash temporarily impacted traffic in the area, but all lanes of Interstate 64 have since reopened.
The Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not released any additional information regarding possible contributing factors.
