Tohn, a student at Union City High School and a member of the tennis and golf teams, was the son of Katie and Kenny Tohn. He passed away at The West Tennessee Healthcare Volunteer Hospital following the crash.

Union City High School Principal Jacob Cross described Tohn as “a wonderful young man and a true Golden Tornado,” expressing shock and sorrow over the loss as students and staff were informed.

“We are obviously all in shock. We will offer whatever help is needed to our students and staff, and our prayers will be with Katie and Kenny and their family,” Cross said.

The school system confirmed that counselors and area church youth leaders will be available across all UC campuses to support students and staff during this difficult time.

Tohn is survived by his parents and two siblings, William and McClain, who also attend schools in the district.

Union City Director of Schools Wes Kennedy said the focus in the coming days will be on supporting the school community and the Tohn family as they navigate the heartbreaking loss.

“Today and the coming days will be about comforting and supporting our students, faculty, and the Tohn family,” Kennedy said. “We will offer our love, our support, and our compassion, and get through this difficult time the best way we can.”

Funeral arrangements for Paul Martin Tohn have not yet been announced.
