A deep and painful sorrow has fallen over Duluth following the tragic death of Keyshawn Michael Beckom, who was killed in a horrific crash early Saturday morning in southern St. Louis County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the deadly wreck occurred around 3:45 a.m. on May 16 along Highway 2 near Culver Township, close to milepost 236. Authorities said a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling eastbound when it crossed into the oncoming lane before gradually drifting into the north ditch. Moments later, the vehicle violently struck a power pole with devastating force, snapping the pole in half and leaving behind a scene of destruction.

The Jeep eventually came to rest facing westbound with all four tires on the ground. Keyshawn, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver, Lee Arthur Green, 24, of Duluth, survived and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment. Investigators stated that alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor. Road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the crash.

Multiple agencies responded, including the Minnesota State Patrol, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Fond du Lac Police Department, Culver Fire Department, Cloquet Ambulance, St. Louis Fire, and Life Link.

Keyshawn’s death has left loved ones devastated and searching for answers. At only 23, his life was stolen in an instant, leaving behind grief that will not fade. His family and friends now face an unimaginable loss, one that no one should ever have to endure.
