The Wayne County community is mourning the tragic and sudden loss of Timothy P. Abbott, 49, who passed away Saturday night following a devastating ATV crash in Damascus Township.
According to Pennsylvania State Police at Honesdale, the crash occurred just before 10 p.m. on Stonefence Road, approximately 600 feet north of Lakeview Drive. Investigators said Abbott was operating a 2023 Polaris Sportsman 850 ATV when he failed to safely navigate a right-hand curve in the roadway, causing the vehicle to roll.
Authorities reported that Abbott was not wearing safety equipment at the time of the crash. He became trapped beneath the ATV and suffered fatal injuries. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, but sadly, he was already deceased upon their arrival.
The crash scene was secured as troopers collected evidence and worked to piece together the events leading up to the rollover. Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and no additional details have been released at this time.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Beyond the investigation, those who knew Timothy are now left to cope with a sudden and heartbreaking loss. His passing has left family, friends, and the Damascus community grieving the absence of a life taken far too soon. In small, close-knit communities like Wayne County, losses like this are deeply felt, leaving a lasting silence where a familiar presence once stood.
As loved ones gather to remember him, they hold onto memories that now carry even greater meaning. In the days ahead, they will lean on one another for strength and support, honoring his life and the impact he had on those around him.
Though gone too soon, Timothy’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and cared for him.
