According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Rothwell was inside a vehicle traveling northbound on I-71 with two other individuals when gunfire erupted from another vehicle. During the exchange, Robert was struck by at least one bullet. The vehicle he occupied later crashed into a guardrail along the interstate as panic and chaos unfolded on the busy highway. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported him to UC Medical Center, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators have not yet identified a suspect or determined a motive behind the deadly shooting. Witnesses reportedly described the suspected shooter’s vehicle as a dark SUV, but authorities continue to piece together what led to the violence. The interstate remained closed for several hours while deputies processed evidence and searched the area.
