Brownsville police are continuing to investigate a deadly incident that occurred Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the Holiday Inn located in the 600 block of Sunrise Boulevard, an event that has left the community saddened and searching for answers.
According to the Brownsville Police Department, officers were dispatched to the hotel at approximately 12:34 p.m. after hotel staff discovered two individuals deceased inside one of the rooms. When officers arrived at the scene, they located an adult male and an adult female lying in bed with apparent gunshot wounds to the head. Investigators also recovered a firearm from inside the room as they began processing the scene and gathering evidence.
Authorities later identified the deceased as 39-year-old German Navarro Lopez and 38-year-old Shelsy Solis Sosa. Police confirmed that the two were in a relationship.
Preliminary findings released by investigators indicate the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide. According to police, evidence gathered at the scene suggests Lopez fatally shot Sosa before turning the weapon on himself.
