Family, friends, and members of the Amarillo community are mourning the tragic loss of Travis Babcock, 31, who lost his life in a motorcycle crash Monday on the Hughes Street overpass near SW First Avenue in Amarillo, Texas.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers responded to the overpass after receiving reports of a crash involving two motorcycles and an SUV. Investigators said both motorcycles were traveling north on Hughes Street alongside the SUV when Babcock’s motorcycle lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with the SUV.
Authorities reported that a second motorcycle also lost control during the incident but was able to avoid striking the SUV. Babcock suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second motorcycle and the driver of the SUV were both transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
