Makell Green Obituary, Makell Green Identified as Victim in Fatal Tarrant Shooting, TARRANT, Ala. — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of an 18-year-old Birmingham man Tuesday night, marking the first homicide of the year in the City of Tarrant, according to law enforcement officials.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Makell Jermaine Green, 18, of Birmingham. Officials said Green was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds after officers responded to a reported shooting in the 3000 block of Grove Avenue.
According to investigators, Tarrant Police Department dispatchers received a 911 call shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday from a woman who reported that two men were shooting at her boyfriend. The caller told authorities that her boyfriend had fled the area during the gunfire and that she could not locate him.
Officers immediately responded to the scene and began searching the area. Upon arrival, police found Green lying unresponsive with apparent gunshot injuries. Emergency responders evaluated him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9:25 p.m., according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the shooting, whether Green knew the suspects, or what may have caused the confrontation. Police have also not provided descriptions of the individuals believed to be involved or identified a possible motive.
Tarrant Police Chief Wendell Major said no arrests had been made as of Tuesday night. Investigators continue to process evidence, speak with witnesses, and work to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.
