Kevin “Taco” Fitzgerald Obituary: Kiel, Wisconsin Countryman Remembered for Kindness, Hard Work and Generosity
Kevin “Taco” Fitzgerald Obituary, KIEL, Wis. — Kevin “Taco” Fitzgerald passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love and care of those closest to him during his final days.
Kevin was born on October 7, 1960, to the late John and Genevieve (Krall) Fitzgerald. He attended St. Isadore School in Osman before graduating from Kiel High School in 1978. His early years were spent helping on the family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic and humility that would remain central to his life.
After spending many years working on the family farm, Kevin moved into construction at Diamond Door in Kiel. Even later in life, he continued helping on his brothers’ farms whenever he could, always willing to lend a hand and do whatever work needed to be done. His connection to farming and the countryside remained an important part of who he was.
Kevin was also known for his many interests and the friendships he formed throughout his life. He was a longtime member of the Ant Hill Mob and enjoyed troubleshooting things that were broken, riding his Harley and taking road trips. A country man at heart, he especially enjoyed driving along back roads, watching the fields and crops change with the seasons and appreciating the land and the work that went into it.
Those who knew Kevin will remember him for his kindness, generosity and willingness to help others without expecting anything in return. He treasured the people in his life and enjoyed sharing laughs and jokes with those around him. His life was marked by hard work, selflessness and a genuine appreciation for family, friends and the simple pleasures of being out on the road and in the countryside.
Kevin is lovingly survived by his cherished friend, Cindy Vogel; siblings Jim (Sandie) Fitzgerald, Bob (Kathy) Fitzgerald, Jay (Debbie) Fitzgerald and Ellen (Paul) Hintz; his bonus grandson, Nick Fritsch; his best four-legged friend, Maggie; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Genevieve Fitzgerald, and his brother, William Fitzgerald.
Following Kevin’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held August 30, 2026, at Butch & Anne’s Pine Grove from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Ant Hill Mob, which will select a charity to receive the donations in Kevin’s memory. The Suchon Funeral Home is assisting the family.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to Dr. Bettag and his staff, Sharon Richardson Hospice, and nieces Katy and Melissa. Special thanks are also extended to Cindy and Matt for their loving care, kindness and unwavering support, which allowed Kevin to remain comfortable at home during his final days. Kevin’s life leaves a legacy of kindness, selflessness and hard work, and he will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
