Louisville Metro Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Louisville’s Smoketown neighborhood that left two adults dead Thursday night.
According to the information provided by police, officers were dispatched at approximately 8:50 p.m. to the 500 block of East Jacob Street after receiving reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found an adult man and an adult woman outside suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders immediately began providing medical assistance.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured man was transported by Louisville Metro EMS to UofL Hospital, where he later died despite efforts to save his life.
The deaths have prompted the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Homicide Unit to take over the investigation. Detectives are working to establish what led to the shooting and determine whether the victims were specifically targeted.
At this time, police have not identified a suspect, and no arrests have been announced. Investigators are expected to examine evidence from the scene, speak with witnesses and review any available surveillance or other footage that could help establish a timeline.
The shooting has left residents in the Smoketown community concerned as detectives continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the double homicide.
