BALTIMORE, Md. — Baltimore City Police have arrested a 39-year-old Annapolis man in connection with a July shooting that left a 53-year-old man wounded in Southwest Baltimore.
Police identified the suspect as Johnnie Hawkins of Annapolis, Maryland. Investigators said Hawkins was wanted in connection with the shooting that occurred in the 2600 block of West Lexington Street.
The incident happened on July 19, 2026, at approximately 10:29 p.m., when Southwest District officers responded to the area following a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a 53-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His injury was described by authorities as non-life-threatening.
Detectives with the Southwest District investigated the shooting and subsequently identified Hawkins as a suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest as investigators continued working to locate him.
On August 7, detectives assigned to the Baltimore Police Department’s Warrant Apprehension Task Force located and arrested Hawkins in Annapolis. He was then transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility in Baltimore, where he was formally charged.
Hawkins faces charges including attempted murder and assault in connection with the shooting. Additional details about the circumstances that led to the gunfire, including a possible motive or the relationship between the suspect and victim, have not been publicly released.
The arrest represents a significant development in the investigation, which began more than two weeks after the shooting occurred. Detectives may continue reviewing evidence and gathering information as the criminal case moves forward.
