CHICAGO — Two men were critically injured following a shooting in Chicago’s Near North neighborhood Monday night, according to Chicago police.
The shooting happened at approximately 9:17 p.m. in the 800 block of North Dearborn Street, authorities said.
Police said a 34-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were involved in an argument when the confrontation escalated and a gun was fired.
The 34-year-old victim was struck in the abdomen and transported to Northwestern Hospital, where he remained in critical condition. The 37-year-old man was also taken to Northwestern Hospital after suffering multiple gunshot injuries and was listed in critical condition.
A person of interest was taken into custody, police said, and charges were pending as investigators continued to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities also recovered a firearm at the scene as part of the investigation.
Police have not publicly released additional information about what sparked the argument or whether the two injured men knew the person who was taken into custody.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to establish the sequence of events and determine whether additional charges are warranted. No further injuries were reported in the initial account.
