SPRING HILL, Fla. — A deadly incident involving a Pinellas County sheriff’s deputy and his former girlfriend is under investigation after both were found dead following a reported dispute over a television set, according to authorities.
The incident began in the Hudson area, where deputies received a report involving an escalating dispute between the two individuals. Investigators said the disagreement reportedly involved property, including a television set, and later developed into a more serious confrontation.
Authorities identified the man as Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Troy Savetz. Investigators said he was reportedly armed and left the area with the woman in a rental vehicle before law enforcement arrived.
Pasco Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to reach the pair by telephone. After several unsuccessful attempts, deputies launched a search to locate them and determine their safety.
The two were eventually found deceased at a residence in the 16800 block of Platinum Drive in Spring Hill. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.
Investigators are working to reconstruct the events leading up to the deaths and determine exactly what happened during the confrontation. Authorities have described the incident as an isolated case and said there is no continuing threat to the public.
The investigation remains ongoing. Officials are expected to release additional information once detectives have completed further investigative work and notified the appropriate relatives.
The case has drawn attention because one of the deceased was a law-enforcement officer. Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including the reported property dispute and the events that preceded the shooting.
