Three Young Lives Lost in Belt Parkway Crash
Brooklyn is mourning the heartbreaking loss of three teenagers whose lives were cut short in a devastating crash on the Belt Parkway late Tuesday night.
Huzayfah Aziz Algaheim, 18, Konstantin Gerantidi, 17, and Abdul Rehman, 16, are being remembered by their families, friends and loved ones as the community struggles to come to terms with the tragedy.
According to reports, the teenagers were traveling in a Cadillac Escalade when it was involved in a serious collision near 65th Street in Bay Ridge. Police said the SUV encountered slower traffic before a Honda HR-V traveling behind it struck the vehicle from behind. The impact sent the Cadillac into a guardrail, causing it to spin and overturn.
Three teenagers were ejected from the SUV and later died at nearby hospitals. Two other teenagers in the Cadillac survived and were hospitalized. The occupants of the Honda were also taken to the hospital with injuries.
For the families of Huzayfah, Konstantin and Abdul, the tragedy represents the sudden loss of young lives filled with promise. At just 16, 17 and 18 years old, the three teenagers had their futures ahead of them, making their deaths especially painful for those who knew and loved them.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the movements and speed of the vehicles involved. No final conclusions about responsibility should be drawn until the investigation is complete.
