MERIDIANVILLE, Ala. — An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting at a residence on John Harold Drive in Meridianville, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to a home in the 200 block of John Harold Drive after receiving a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found 62-year-old Marcus Lanier suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the emergency response, Lanier was pronounced dead at the scene.
Grandson arrested at scene
The suspect was identified as Zakarius D. Lanier, 18, who authorities say is the victim’s grandson.
Deputies took Lanier into custody at the residence without further incident. He was subsequently booked into the Madison County Jail on a murder charge following an investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
Authorities said Lanier is currently being held without bond.
Shooting described as domestic-related
Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from a domestic-related incident involving the two individuals, according to the sheriff’s office.
