South Minneapolis Shooting: Man Killed in Early-Morning Gunfire Near 18th Avenue South
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — A man was fatally shot in South Minneapolis early Friday morning after police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of 18th Avenue South.
The Minneapolis Police Department said officers were dispatched at approximately 3:20 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired and an automated ShotSpotter alert.
When officers arrived, they discovered a man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds inside the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
Officers immediately began providing lifesaving medical assistance at the scene. Despite those efforts, the man died from his injuries.
Police secure South Minneapolis crime scene
Following the shooting, officers established a perimeter around the area and secured the scene while investigators began collecting evidence.
Police canvassed the surrounding neighborhood, looking for witnesses and any information that could help investigators determine where the shooting occurred and what happened in the moments leading up to the man’s death.
Crime-scene personnel processed the area and collected evidence that could be important to the homicide investigation.
