The Kennewick, Washington, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Marvin Joseph Mason, 84, who died following a tragic motorcycle crash along Highway 244 in Union County, Oregon, on September 9, 2026.
According to Oregon State Police, the crash happened at approximately 1:04 p.m. near milepost 37, close to the Grande Ronde River. Authorities responded to a reported single-vehicle motorcycle collision involving a gray BMW motorcycle.
Investigators said Mason was traveling in the area when, for reasons that remain under investigation, he left the roadway and crashed near the riverbank.
Another motorcyclist traveling with Mason, identified as Dean Allen Moore, 73, of Richland, Washington, realized Mason was no longer following behind him. Moore turned back to search for him and discovered Mason and the damaged motorcycle.
Mason was pronounced deceased at the scene. Moore was not injured in the incident.
