Dr. Sarah E. Turner Obituary, Greenwood School District Mourns Loss Of Beloved Member
The Greenwood School District is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Sarah E. Turner, a beloved educator and a cornerstone of the Greenwood family. Her loss leaves a void in our halls, our classrooms, and our hearts, but her legacy remains woven into the very fabric of our community.
Dr. Turner’s commitment to the transformative power of education spanned over three decades. Upon her retirement in 2010, she left behind a distinguished 31-year career, 22 of which were dedicated exclusively to the students and families of the Greenwood School District. Her versatility and leadership were unmatched; she served our district in nearly every capacity imaginable, moving seamlessly from the role of teacher and counselor to assistant principal and, ultimately, principal.
However, to define Dr. Turner merely by her professional titles would be to miss the essence of who she truly was. While her resume speaks of authority and expertise, the people who worked alongside her speak of her soul. To her colleagues, she was amazing, compassionate, funny, and fiercely determined. She was a woman of profound faith and incredible strength.
Dr. Turner was known for her “soft heart” for children, yet she possessed a backbone of steel when it came to advocacy. She was a champion for her students, her staff, and her convictions, never hesitating to go to bat for what she believed was right. While she was respected for being “by the book,” she balanced her discipline with a radiant sense of humor and a big, genuine smile that seemed to come from deep within. Above all, she simply loved kids. Deeply.
Dr. Turner left an extraordinary mark on the Greenwood School District. The lives she influenced—the students she mentored, the teachers she guided, and the families she supported—will continue to tell her story for generations to come.
We are profoundly grateful for her 31 years of service to the field of education and the 22 years she selflessly gave to Greenwood. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, former colleagues, and the countless students whose lives were forever changed by her grace.
