ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — An 18-year-old Rocky Mount man has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder following an alleged shooting that left a man seriously injured earlier this month, according to a Nash County arrest warrant.
Dexter Montrel Sykes Jr. is facing two felony charges: attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
According to the arrest warrant, the alleged incident occurred on September 6. Court documents accuse Sykes of attempting to kill a male victim and using a handgun to assault him with the intent to cause death. The warrant further alleges that the victim suffered serious injuries in the incident.
Rocky Mount Police Investigate
The case was investigated by the Rocky Mount Police Department. Following the investigation, an arrest warrant for Sykes was issued on September 9.
Sykes was subsequently taken into custody, according to the information provided in the case.
