Nathaniel D. Carter Fire Incident: Nathaniel D. Carter, 40, Identified After Fatal Clay County Barn Fire Investigation
Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of Nathaniel D. Carter, 40, of McKee, Kentucky, after his body was discovered in fire debris following a reported barn fire in Clay County.
According to KSP Post 11 London, Clay County 911 requested assistance at approximately 8:30 p.m. on September 17, 2026, after a barn fire was reported along KY-577.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they discovered an unidentified male inside the fire debris with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. Kentucky State Police were notified and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
An autopsy was conducted the following morning, September 18, and authorities identified the victim as Nathaniel D. Carter of McKee.
As detectives continued their investigation, they located and interviewed Dalton S. Bowling, 28, of Manchester, Kentucky. Bowling was later arrested and charged with murder in connection with Carter’s death.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and gather additional information.
Carter’s death has left family, friends, and members of the McKee community mourning the loss of a life taken under tragic circumstances. Loved ones are now left to remember him while awaiting further answers from investigators.
