Springfield Shooting: 22-Year-Old Codey Martinez Killed in Overnight Homicide
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A 22-year-old Springfield man, Codey Martinez, was killed in an overnight shooting early Sunday morning, marking the city’s ninth homicide investigation of 2026, according to the Springfield Police Department.
Police said officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of East Montclair at approximately 2:20 a.m. on September 20, 2026.
When officers arrived, they found Martinez suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the emergency response, Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family has since been notified of his death.
Suspect Arrested in Ozark County
Following the shooting, detectives with the Springfield Police Department launched an investigation and worked to identify a person believed to be responsible.
Investigators subsequently identified a suspect who was later arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop G, in Ozark County, Missouri.
