Authorities across Missouri are actively searching for a man accused of exchanging gunfire with police officers during a traffic stop early Sunday morning in Caruthersville, prompting the issuance of a statewide Blue Alert.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 42-year-old Zachary Rance Walker allegedly opened fire on officers during the encounter before fleeing from the scene on foot. Officers reportedly returned fire during the exchange, and investigators believe Walker may have sustained gunshot wounds while escaping.
Law enforcement agencies describe Walker as armed and extremely dangerous. Officials say he may still be carrying both a handgun and a rifle and should not be approached under any circumstances.
Walker was last seen wearing a navy graphic T-shirt, dark-colored shorts, and black lace-up boots. Troopers also noted that he has extensive tattoos, which may assist in identifying him.
Authorities warned that Walker poses an active threat to both law enforcement personnel and members of the public as the manhunt continues. Multiple agencies remain involved in the ongoing search effort throughout the region.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and immediately contact 911 if they see Walker or have any information regarding his whereabouts. Officials emphasized that the public should not attempt to confront or detain him.
The investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing. Additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
