Subastion James Samuel Cruz-Galyon Obituary, ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Subastion James Samuel Cruz-Galyon, a 20-year-old motorcyclist, has died following a late-night crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle in south Asheville, according to the Asheville Police Department.
The fatal collision happened on Wednesday night, July 1, in the 1700 block of Hendersonville Road. Police officers responded to reports of a motorcycle versus passenger vehicle crash at approximately 10:43 p.m. as emergency crews rushed to the scene.
According to investigators, a preliminary investigation found that several motorcycles were traveling northbound on Hendersonville Road before the crash occurred. Authorities said one motorcycle entered the intersection as a passenger vehicle was attempting to turn east onto Turtle Creek Drive, resulting in a collision.
The impact ejected Cruz-Galyon from the motorcycle. Emergency responders transported him to Mission Hospital, where he received treatment for critical injuries. Despite medical efforts, Cruz-Galyon later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Cruz-Galyon’s death has left family members and friends mourning the loss of a young life. A GoFundMe page created in his memory stated that he was only days away from celebrating his 21st birthday, adding to the heartbreak surrounding his passing.
The Asheville Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash. Authorities said investigators will review the findings and consult with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether any criminal charges are warranted.
At this time, no charges have been announced. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may assist the investigation to contact the Asheville Police Department.
