The victim, Monifer Carrie of Beetham Gardens, Port of Spain, was fatally shot after gunmen intercepted the vehicle she was travelling in shortly after midnight.

According to police reports, around 12:05 a.m., Carrie was a passenger in a white Nissan Sentra being driven by Isaiah Cruickshank, also known as “Touchy,” of Manahambre Road. The pair were travelling along Malgretoute Road when their journey was violently interrupted.

Investigators say another vehicle suddenly emerged from Manahambre Branch Road and blocked their path. Two armed men then exited the vehicle and opened fire, discharging multiple shots into the car before fleeing the scene in what appears to be a coordinated attack.

A relative who responded to the area shortly after the shooting discovered Carrie lying on the roadway. Emergency responders transported both victims to the Princes Town Health Facility, where Carrie was pronounced dead at approximately 12:36 a.m.

Cruickshank sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, are continuing inquiries into the incident. The motive for the attack has not yet been determined, and no arrests have been made at this time.

The deadly ambush has added to growing concern in the area as residents await answers in a case that has left a young life lost and another hanging in the balance.
