The community of Fairfax County, Virginia, is mourning the tragic loss of Jeffrey William Cole, 71, who died following a two-vehicle crash in Lancaster County that has left family and friends grieving a sudden and heartbreaking loss.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred on Friday, May 15, at approximately 11:47 a.m. at the intersection of Irvington Road and Christ Church Road. Investigators said Cole was operating a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 SUV when he entered the intersection from Christ Church Road and allegedly failed to yield the right of way.
As the vehicle crossed into the intersection, it was struck by a southbound 2024 GMC Sierra 1500, causing a violent collision that left both vehicles damaged.
Emergency responders transported Cole to Rappahannock General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries. Authorities confirmed that he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. A passenger in the Mercedes-Benz sustained no injuries.
The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 46-year-old Lancaster County man, was also wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.
Virginia State Police reported that speed and impairment do not appear to be factors, and no charges have been filed at this time. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision.
