Jonathan Hunter Mullins Arrested: Murder Charges Filed Following Deadly Georgetown Shooting

Authorities are investigating a deadly Friday evening shooting in Georgetown that left 50-year-old James Evan Mullins dead and another man seriously injured, according to officials.

The Scott County Coroner’s Office confirmed Mullins as the victim following the incident, which unfolded on Hutchins Drive around 5:30 p.m. on May 22, 2026. The case remains under active investigation by the Georgetown Police Department.

Police said officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area and arrived to find a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

While working the same scene, officers also discovered a second male victim who had sustained “serious physical injuries consistent with a stabbing,” according to investigators. That individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials have not released further information on his condition.

Following the initial investigation, authorities arrested 22-year-old Jonathan Hunter Mullins of Georgetown in connection with the incident. He has been charged with murder and first-degree assault.

Police confirmed that the suspect has been booked into the Scott County Detention Center, where he remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Investigators spent several hours at the scene Friday evening, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and working to piece together the sequence of events that led to the violent confrontation. Authorities have not yet released a motive or clarified the relationship between those involved.

The shooting has left the Georgetown community shaken, as residents process the sudden loss of life and the seriousness of the injuries reported in the same incident. Many in the area expressed concern as police activity continued into the night.
