According to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Appling County EMS responded to a residence on Cindy Rae Lane in Baxley, Georgia, at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2. Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered Mr. Ayers and confirmed that he had passed away. Following an investigation by the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and the Appling County Coroner’s Office, authorities determined that Mr. Ayers was the victim of a homicide.
Law enforcement officials requested assistance from the Georgia State Patrol in locating a suspect who had reportedly fled the scene. Authorities later apprehended 41-year-old Samuel David Veal, who is currently being held at the Appling County Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing, and Mr. Ayers will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab as part of the continuing investigative process.
